PacketMon is a nice application developed by AnalogX. The purpose of PacketMon is to capture the packets transmitted through your network in order to monitor and administer the network properly. Although there are many applications out there for the same purpose, the advantage of PacketMon is its speed.
PacketMon is a very small download and you can literally be monitoring your network in less than two minutes. It does not monitor only the information leaving your computer, but all the incoming and outgoing information of your local network. There is also a “Rules editor” where you can select the type of package and the rate at which you can capture it. You can sort through IP, port, or protocol, among others. The program even allows you to view the package headers and its contents, and it does not require much memory.
However, this simplicity implies that some important features are missing, such as editors, configuration options, and header filtering, to name a few. Nevertheless, if you need a free, simple, quick, and very powerful packet logger, then you will find that PacketMon is a great tool!
